#Pi Day 2019

Are you wondering why everyone seems really excited about pies today? Baking pies, eating pies, posting weird puns? Brace yourself, it’s because of math. Pies today is a play on words about the mathematical symbol pi  (π) that is pronounced like pie. It is a constant and irrational number. This means that when writing out its decimal representation it starts as 3.14159 but then goes on forever and has no end! It does not have a fraction that accurately represents its value. First defined as a ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter over time it has appeared in many equations. Some may try to beat Akira Haraguchi’s 2006 record of memorizing and being able to recite 100,000 digits of the number, but I’ll stick to pie eating! How far can you get?
